Greetings Neighbors,
When my wife and I made the decision that we wanted to start a family, we began to look into many of the communities in Chicagoland. The two of us have lived our entire lives in this region, living in areas such as Chicago, Niles, Naperville, Oak Park, Hinsdale, and Clarendon Hills. We knew what we wanted was a welcoming environment that provided great services such as schools, parks, libraries, and community, along with being safe and forward thinking. Once we learned more about Arlington Heights, we knew we had found our home! In 1995 we made the move and have never looked back or regretted it. Arlington Heights has been all that and more!
As we became settled and our three kids began to grow, I knew that I wanted to be involved in this community and do what I could to help it grow. My first endeavors were focused around my kids. I started by joining the PTA at Ivy Hill School, where I spent four years serving as School Board Meeting Rep and National PTA Liaison. From there I spent two years as Cubmaster for Pack 468 at Ivy Hill. I also coached many neighborhood kids in baseball and basketball for 10 years.
While helping the kids in our community develop will always be a passion for me, I also knew I wanted to do more for the entire community. With that in mind, I was proud to be chosen by the Village Trustees to serve on the Housing Commission in October 2008, where I spent six years reviewing community projects such as for First-Time Homebuyers and Affordable Housing. From there I decided to throw my hat in the ring to become a member of the Board of Trustees for the Arlington Heights Memorial Library, which I was honored to be voted in by the citizens of Arlington Heights in April 2013 and then re-elected in April 2019.
I have had the honor of being a part of this incredible library for 12 years now. During my time as Trustee we have initiated programs such as One Book One Village and opened up the Makerplace. Being a part of this library has been one of the honors of my lifetime, to be a part of a fantastic organization and working with an incredible staff, while bringing new and exciting services for an ever-changing community and technologies. We have added to the library’s offerings for the community, while also being fiscally responsible. I am incredibly proud that we have done all this, while only raising the tax levy twice over the last 12 years.
Now I have decided to ask you and all the citizens of this great community to serve you as Village Trustee. My reasoning for this is because this is my home and one that I love. My personality is not one to just sit on the sidelines, wishing for things to happen. I want to bring my ability to look at issues from all sides, to find common ground that makes sense for the entire community, while also being fiscally sound.
One issue I get a lot of questions on is about the Chicago Bears potentially moving their stadium here. First of all, let me state that I am a huge Bears fan and would love to see them here. We have to do it correctly, though. I worry about issues such as traffic, housing values, what it does to the current downtown in AH, and how it affects us all financially. If they decide to come here, there will be many discussions and nuances that we have to consider. What I can promise every citizen in Arlington Heights, is that I will consider them all in the light that this has to be a positive situation for the village.
Thank you very much for taking the time to consider me to represent you on the Village Board. If I can earn our incredible community’s trust on April, 1 2025, please know that I will be here for all and will always listen to you and your thoughts. Working together is how we build an even stronger Arlington Heights!
Thanks,
Greg Zyck
